Letter To Ava

Dear Ava,

It is the eve of your 2nd Birthday.  I cannot believe that this is the last day that you will be one year old.  It went by too fast…you are no longer a baby.  You have grown so quickly and have learned so much.  As I look at you, I am amused by your most recent quirk: you have been sucking your bottom lip, somewhat like when Sofia used to suck her thumb.   But one thing that is not so new is your devotion to your little doggie.  It recently got some refreshing in the form of some new stuffing inside its belly.  That dog makes you so happy, I just love it.

Thank you for coming into my life. The past few years have been wonderful and crazy at the same time.  You and your sister get along most of the time.  I think you have finally proven yourself to her that you can keep up with an almost-five-year-old.  The picture that is burned into my brain is that of you with your bright wide eyes, watching Sofia and taking it all in, and slowly but with much precision copy something that she is doing or saying with ease.  Right now you are even able to perform her dance for her upcoming recital because of watching her so often.  That’s my girl!  And I think that Sofia is also very proud of her little sister.  I am looking forward to seeing you two grow together as sisters and as friends.

You are such a girly-girl.  Lately you only want to wear dresses, and we walked into a shoe store and you immediately grabbed a pair of pretty shoes and put them on.  Ah, the fetish begins.  Even at night, your pajamas must be dresses.

For the first year, you were definitely a Daddy’s girl, but lately it’s all about Mommy.  I’m loving it.  We are finally at the point where us girls can go out together and just hang and it’s so easy…(easier I should say).  Today, we had a great time hanging out at the coffee shop, no rush, no where to go, just being together!

On the eve of your 2nd birthday as well as your 2nd birthday party here at the house, I have to remind myself to not get so caught up in the hoopla of a birthday party, because all that really matters is that my precious baby is turning 2, and all of the details will fall into place.  I am going to make sure that I have fun celebrating with you, Sofia and Daddy.  Hopefully we’ll be able to do something special, just the four of us.

My wish for you on your 2nd birthday is always to be happy.  To learn as much as you can and to enjoy your little life, and laugh often.  And in turn, I promise to be more present for you, and to celebrate all of your victories, big and small.  You are a wonderful, beautiful, vibrant and happy little girl.  I am so proud to be your Mommy.

I love you so…

Mommy
